This elementary course is for people who do not know any Spanish.  The objective of this course is to give students essential linguistic and sociocultural tools so that they are able to interact in simple daily life situations.

The course is divided into 2 modules, each focuses on the development of different but complementary language skills. Both modules introduce students to the vocabulary, grammar and usage of Spanish language through the practice and development of the four abilities: listening, speaking, reading and writing.  All activities  are intended to resemble social and work-related environments in order to allow the students to practice the language in real life situations. The course also presents significant aspects of Chilean culture and idiosyncrasy as these contents help students learn Spanish while living in Chile.

The course is open to any person interested in learning Spanish at Universidad de Chile. It meets twice a week for a total of 4.5 hours weekly and extends along a semester of 16 weeks.

CLASSES START: Monday, August 6, 2018

CLASSES END: Friday,  December 7, 2018

CLASSES: Mondays and Wednesday between 10.15 a.m. and 13.30 p.m.

Registration process (Placement test and oral interview) :Monday, July 23, at 10.00 a.m. (writing test) and Wednesday, July 25, since 9 a.m. (oral interview).

All participants must take the placement test and do the oral interview even if they do not speak any Spanish.

International Students (PME) at Universidad de Chile	CLP$252.000 (US $400) Cost is paid in Chilean pesos

Applicants who are not international students registered at Universidad de Chile must pay $10.000 (Chilean pesos) to take the placement tests.

To apply for the placement tests, you have to send a copy of your passport, via email.

To participate in this course applicants do not need a student visa.

As this course only lasts 4 months, and students are not registered in a regular program at the University, we do not issue any document to help obtain a student visa.
